Reflection

Chloe Leung Hor Yee

1. Explain how you have contributed to the project.

I am Carpe Diem's photographer and videographer. I filmed our trip to the animal shelter, directed and edited 'The Kindness Project' Interview video (which can be found in the Kindness Survey page). I also searched for volunteering opportunities, participated in brainstorming sessions, as well as took photos and designed the Gallery page.

2. What were some of the challenges you faced while completing this project?

While we were looking for orphanages, refugee schools and animal shelters, we came across one refugee school that we all agreed to go to. We emailed the representative but did not get a response. It was a difficult time as we hoped to be able to volunteer so we could have more time to work on the content of our website.
Other than that, we also had a lot problems with managing our time as we had many other assignments to do and each subproject we did was extremely time consuming.

3. How were the challenges in Number 2 above resolved?

The whole team was frantically searching for all types of volunteer work to do. Thankfully, our lecturer recommended an animal shelter to us. We sent a few emails and were able to book a time to help out at the Malaysia Independent Animal Rescue.
As for managing our time, we tried to discuss as much as possible through messaging apps and discussed about our subprojects during our break times.

4. Did you enjoy this project? Justify your answer.

Yes, I enjoyed doing this project with my team mates a lot. Kindness has always been a topic that I wanted to spread awareness about, but did not know how to as I have never spoken about it to others. When my group members decided on this topic, I was thrilled because we would have the chance to spread some kindness in our society.

5. State three TGCs that you have acquired through this project and illustrate specific activities that reflect the chosen TGCs. Elaborate your answer.

The TGCs that I have acquired through this project are:

Thinking and Problem Solving Skills:
- We all had to think of creative ideas to show and promote our topic, which was 'kindness'.
- There were many issues throughout the project. For example, we did not get permission to volunteer at a refugee school so we had to search high and low for other options. As a result, we found an animal shelter that needs more awareness, contacted them and managed to finish our first project.

Communication Skills:
- Contacting refugee schools, animal shelters.
- Interviewing people about Kindness

Interpersonal Skills:
- The workload for each person naturally decreases when working as a team. I hope that when we work together again in the future, we would be able to identify our weaknesses quickly and delegate or distribute tasks evenly.
- Sometimes I had to decide and solve problems on my own because the others were be busy with other tasks. However, I thought it was a good way to challenge myself and learn to be more independent.

What I have learned from 'The Kindness Project':
Everyone is so caught up in their daily routines that we often forget to stop and think about the people around us. Kindness is not only about being generous with our money like donating to charities. It is about being considerate of other people's feelings, spreading happiness and putting other people's needs before yours.
It is common for people to have bad days. But the simplest act of kindness like saying "Have a great day" or simply giving someone a smile can make their day a lot better and can potentially create a massive impact on their lives.
Aside from that, I really think we should be kind to animals as well. Previously, we went to the  Malaysia Independant Animal Rescue centre, where they treat dogs who were injured, abused or homeless. What I saw made me realize that I have never paid much attention to animals nor put in the effort to help the strays that I see on the streets. I believe that these loyal and lovable companions deserve so much more.
